2025 Easel Award

Entry Fees:

$30 per Entry

Limit 3 entries per artist. A registration number and claim ticket will be issues for each piece of artwork entered.

General Rules

Artwork that fulfills the criteria, may be entered for the Easel Award competition. Artwork submitted in the Easel Award Competition may not be entered in other Arts in the Alley show categories

Judging & Pickup

Closed judging for the main prize takes place on Friday, Sept 19, 3 PM - 5 PM. Judges follow the four criteria outlined below, and their decision is final. The winner will be notified Friday, Sept 19 after 5 PM, and the Award Ribbon will be displayed through the end of the event.

Awards

Easel Award Winner

The winner Artist will receive a $2,000 purchase award from the City of Grove City. The winning artwork becomes part of the City's permanent arts collection. While the image of the artwork remains on the property of the Artist, images of the artwork may be used by the City of Grove City and the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce (GCACC) for non-monetary promotions of Grove City, the GCACC, Arts in the Alley or the Grove City Easel Award

People's Choice Winner

Ballots are collected from the public until 2 PM Sunday. The winning artist will be notified by 2:30 PM and earns a $500 (non-purchase award from the City of Grove City.

Awards Ceremony (Please Make Yourself Available)

Sunday, Sept. 21, 3 PM - 4 PM on the Heartland Stage in Town Center Park.

 

Entry Requirements & Judging Criteria

Theme: "Life in Grove City"

Submitted artwork must reflect LIFE IN GROVE CITY. Artwork containing pornographic or satanic content is not eligible for entry (at the discretion of the registrar)

Judges will consider:

  • Artist's interpretation and clarity of theme to the viewer

Medium, Variety & Originality

Original 2-D artwork is accepted and shall be created by the artist no earlier than Sept 15, 2023. Accepted mediums include (and are not limited to): painting, drawing, photography, digital, fiber art, collage, mixed media, printmaking and 2-D textile. 3-D artwork is accepted providing it can be wired for hanging. NOT ACCEPTED: 3-D art that is not wired for hanging or unable to be hung, videos or installations.

Judges will consider:

  • Skill & technique
  • Visual appeal and overall impression of the art.

Presentation

Framing and matting is considered integral to the artwork and will be included in judging. To ensure
the protection of the entry, the safety of the display and the quality of new acquisitions to the City’s
collections, the following is required*:

  • Entries should be no larger than 36” x 36”.
  • All entries must be framed (or have finished edges) and wired for hanging.
  • At the artist’s discretion, paper/fragile art must be protected (framed, glazed, glass, etc.).
  • Fabric art must be framed (or otherwise prepared) and wired for hanging.

Judges will consider:

  • Presentation and display.
